Speaker 1:In May we get to do one of my favorite things and that is to dream and visualize and look out past where we are right now. I didn't realize until recently how this has always come relatively naturally to me. When I take any personality inventory, comes up that I tend to be pretty visionary, and so I am thrilled to take you through a very specific framework at the end of this, that you're going to walk away with a vivid vision of different facets of your life and how you can begin to apply that to, let's just say, 2024. So this is part two in a series on making your dreams become reality. I can't remember exactly what I called it, but dreams becoming real. And so first I'm going to start by giving you some data and some research and science behind visual visualization. If you've never done this before, it might feel different for you, or maybe a little bit out there. But I also want you to understand what's happening in your brain so that you can kind of fully grasp and kind of be open to the process that I'm going to take you through. And then I'm going to take you through the exercise. I have done this with rooms of 80 people, I have done this with small teams, I've done this with individuals, and usually at the end of it people are pretty like, wow, that is really cool. So this is for you. But just note that you know if maybe you have a partner, you're in a relationship, maybe you have, even some of your younger kids might be able to do a version of this or a team at work, you can hit play on this podcast, save it and walk your people through this.
Speaker 1:Part three in this series is how to take what you walk away from today with and start breaking that down into very actionable, smart goals and a specific plan that you can put in place for 2024. So you know, on this podcast, I'm all about tapping into energy and thinking big and manifesting things. That is very right brain of me. It does not. You cannot function only in that realm in order to execute dreams at a high level, I believe. So now I'm pulling in a little bit more of the masculine. We'll do a little bit more right brain in this episode. The next one is definitely very logic based and structure based. So it's going to bring structure to the, to the dreams that you have, and today I'm going to provide you with a bit of structure. So I get to play the masculine role today and give you some structure and let you walk through this exercise, or walk into this exercise. I should say Okay.
Speaker 1:So, starting with the science behind this, you have probably heard of plenty of athletes that have used the technique that we call visualization, so it's a version of what we're going to do today, where they actually practice a successful golf swing. Tiger Woods is is very widely known for this. Muhammad Ali is known for that, along with affirmations. So it's very commonly accepted now that athletes will visualize going through the motions successfully in their mind. There's actually some research out there that they took weight lifters and show that they had improved muscle gains and strength to the same degree visualizing as they did actually lifting the weights. So there's there's other scientific research that demonstrates that visualization can improve immune system functioning, can relax the body. Of course I've already nodded to it can improve athletic performance, memory, academic performance. So visualization is a really powerful tool. It is really used widely. It actually the history of that goes back well, probably before it was ever noted. But it started to become more popular when the Soviets started using it back in the 1970s to compete in sports. So it's come a long way since then and now we have a lot of other data to back that.
Speaker 1:I don't have the specific studies in front of me, apologize on that. I just did a little bit of digging and then got impatient. I'm not the best researcher but I know it's out there that two things One, when you employ all five of your senses into visualization, it becomes more wired into your neural pathways. There's a study published in a neuron that showed that imagining a threat elicits almost the same response in the brain and the body as experiencing it in real life. The same is true for imagining something that brings you joy and pleasure. Just the fact of your mind imagining it elicits the same response in your body is really powerful. Now we know because of neuroscience that your brain we used to think they were. Once they're sort of baked, they're done. But now we know that there's a thing called neuroplasticity. Neuro meaning brain plasticity meaning that it can. That's a moldable right. So we can wire new neural pathways by doing some of what we're doing today. And when we rewire our brains, then we start to take action differently and it creates our world a little bit differently.
Speaker 1:So if you are ready to jump in, this next part is a fully it's a full exercise. If you're driving right now, you can continue to listen, but you're not going to get what you need to get out of this, so you're going to need to have a pen and paper. That's. Another part of this is that when you write with with your hand versus typing on paper. You pull from the subconscious part of your mind, and that's what we want to do today.
Speaker 1:So I need you to have a piece of paper in front of you and something to write with and I'm going to kind of slow the pace down here, so if you need to gather materials, I would pause and get set. Then get into space that's comfortable for you, where you can write and I'm gonna put a little vibey music on for you and to create a space for you. And Then I want you to Plant yourself where you are. If you're sitting cross-legged and into chair, just get, get firmly grounded there, feel your seat bones on the chair, put your. If your feet are on the ground, put them on the ground. And Then I want you to place your hands on the top of your thighs and what we're gonna do is just get you grounded in the space and get you present. So anything that's been distracting you or wherever your mind has been, that all can wait for you, and right now you have the opportunity to vividly vision what you want your life, your dream life, to look like, and so we're gonna come very present to where you are right now.
Speaker 1:So, with your hands on sort of your knees or the top of your thighs, I want you to close your eyes and we're gonna take a few deep breaths here. So breathe in through your nose and an open mouth, exhale and release all the air at the bottom of the exhale. Breathe it in again through your nose, an extra sip at the top, hold it there, exhale with an open mouth. We're gonna do that one more time. Breathe in deeply and then exhale.
Speaker 1:Okay, now, with your paper in front of you, I want you to draw a line from the top to the bottom, right in the middle, and from the left to the right, right in the middle, so a big sort of cross, and you're making four boxes on your sheet of paper, and Today we're gonna focus on just four Main areas of your life. You think of the top four priorities and I'll give you some examples and I want you to pick the four that are most important to you right now. So it might be your job, it might be money, which are two different things, it may be learning and development, family hobbies, love, spirituality, emotional well-being, physical well-being, and can be any four things. And now I want you to write those four areas of your life that you want to focus on. Just the one word on the top of each quadrant. So you're labeling each box with these four areas that you would like to focus on. Okay, and then, once you've got that, I'm gonna take you through a series of questions and then a visualization for each of the four boxes. So we're gonna start in the top left hand box that you have there.
Speaker 1:And now, before we jump into the exercise, it's really important that you Write down whatever is coming to your mind. We don't need to overanalyze this. I want you to consider that every you can go back and listen to. I think it's episode four about the nerdy science stuff behind a thought proceeding matter. Everything that we see in existence right now started with a thought. Man did not walk on moon Just out of thin air. That started with an idea. It started with the thought. The chair that you're sitting on started with somebody imagining what it might be. It started with a thought, and, and today we're gonna tap into your subconscious mind. So no thought is too big, no thought is too crazy. Every thought that you have, if it exists, it exists in the realm of possibility. So when you go to write anything down.
Speaker 1:And, as I'm asking you these questions, I want you to write down everything that comes to mind, with no judgment.
Speaker 1:And we want to assume that you have no lack of resource, which means no lack of money, no lack of time. You have an abundance of time, you have an abundance of money, that there is a way. And if you didn't listen to part one, go back and listen to that we talk about. Big thinking means that you might not know how yet. So we want to expand the way you think and expand your possibilities in this time together, today. Think without limits and allow your, allow that to come forward.
Speaker 1:So, in that top left-hand court quadrant, whatever that area of your life is, imagine that you and I are talking five years from now, because we often Under estimate what we can do in five years and overestimate sometimes what we can do in one year. So you want to think big in five years. You and I are talking and we're looking at that area of your life and you're looking at me and you say, jen, oh, my gosh, in this area of my life it has been more amazing than I could have ever possibly imagined. So what's happened in that area of your life and I want you to write it down. What's happened?
Speaker 3:You, you.
Speaker 1:What else has happened in that area of your life? And continue to ask yourself that question what else, what else? Until you feel complete, until you feel like there's nothing else coming up for you. So, in that area of your life, what's happened? And continue to go down that path until everything is out now. How has that happened? How do you envision that unfolding? What are some of the specific pathways that get you there?
Speaker 3:You, you, you you.
Speaker 1:You. I want you to consider next, why is this important to me? Why is this happening important to me? What about? It is valuable and important and, just like the last question, I want you to keep digging on that until you feel complete. Why else is this important? And whatever the answer is that you just wrote down, I want you to be like a child, with childlike curiosity, and ask yourself well, why is that thing important? And we're going to go a few layers deep on this. Once you write down that next answer, ask yourself, well, why is that important? What we want to do here is get to the root of the motivation that we're not just chasing the thing, we're chasing what's actually really important, or we're uncovering, rather, what's really important beneath the thing.
Speaker 1:Now I want you to write down of the things that you're looking at in the area of your life that you've achieved. How will you feel, specifically, when that's happened? How will you feel? Will I feel empowered, loved, seen free? What are the feelings associated with the things that you have achieved in these five years? How has this impacted you? So, five years from now, we're talking and I'm looking at you and I say, wow, you've achieved all of this in this area of your life. How are you different now than you were then? How has it impacted you? Who have you become? And, after you flesh that out, consider the way that you're showing up now, five years from now. You how does that impact the people closest to you in your world, people that you're most intimately connected with? How are they impacted by who you've become and who do they touch? Next, what's the ripple effect of who you've become Now?
Speaker 1:I want you to take just a minute here and look over, just read through everything you've written down in this area of your life and refresh your mind on everything you've written down, and I want you to now put your pen down and close your eyes and take a deep breath in Exhale through your mouth. Now imagine that you are walking into a space and walking into some room. There's people in it, and this is the five year version of you in that area of your life. What are you wearing? How are you walking? How are you holding your body? Are you carrying anything? What's in your hands? Who's in the room? Who's not in the room?
Speaker 1:How do you speak to people? How do you address conflict? What does your voice sound like? What is your pace? What's your posture? Is there food there? Do you smell anything? What does the space smell like? Do you have a drink in your hand? What does it taste like? Are you wearing a scent? What do you smell like? What do you feel? What is the temperature of the air on your skin? What is the feel of the fabric that you're wearing? What do you hear? Is it nature sounds? Is it people? Is it music? What do you hear in the space? What stands out vividly to you? Now I want you to open your eyes. If you don't have room on that top quadrant, if you filled it up, just flip the paper over. I want you to write down what you noted in that visualization. We go through all five senses. It's important that we incorporate all five senses. What did you see? What did you hear? What did you smell? What did you feel? What did you taste? And write those things down.
Speaker 1:Okay, now that we've done that, we're going to move to the second quadrant. I'm going to take you through the exact same set of questions. So the upper right hand quadrant. In this area of my life, it has been more amazing than I could have ever possibly imagined. So what's happened in that area of your life? And I want you to write it down? What's happened?
Speaker 3:What's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened.
Speaker 1:What else has happened in that area of your life? And continue to ask yourself that question what else, what else? Until you feel complete, until you feel like there's nothing else coming up for you. So, in that area of your life, what's happened? And continue to go down that path until everything is out. Now, how has that happened? How do you envision that unfolding? What are some of the specific pathways that get you there?
Speaker 3:What's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened, what's happened.
Speaker 1:What's happened I want you to consider next why is this important to me? Why is this happening important to me? What about it is valuable and important? And, just like the last question, I want you to keep digging on that until you feel complete. Why else is this important? And whatever the answer is that you just wrote down, I want you to be like a child, with a childlike curiosity, and ask yourself well, why is that thing important? Speaker 1:Now I want you to write down of the things that you're looking at in the area of your life that you've achieved. How will you feel specifically when that's happened? How will you feel? What did you smell? Did you feel? What did you taste? And write those things down.
Speaker 1:Lovely, alright. And now we move to the third quadrant, in the lower left-hand corner. I'll take you through the same questions here In this series of my life. It has been more amazing than I could have ever possibly imagined. So what's happened in that area of your life? And I want you to write it down. What's happened?
Speaker 3:What's happened? What's happened, what's happened.
Speaker 3:What are some of the things that get you there. What are some of the things that get you there. What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there? What are some of the things that get you there?
Speaker 1:What are some of the things that get you there I want you to consider next, why is this important to me? Why is this happening important to me? What about it is valuable and important and, just like the last question, I want you to keep digging on that until you feel complete. Why else is this important? How has it impacted you? Who have you become? And after you flush that out, consider the way that you're showing up now, five years from now you how does that impact the people closest to you in your world, people that you're most intimately connected with?
Speaker 1:how are they impacted by who you've become and who do they touch next? What's the ripple effect of who you've become? Now I want you to take just a minute here and look over, just read through everything you've written down in this area of your life and refresh your mind on everything you've written down, and I want you to now put your pen down and close your eyes and take a deep breath in Exhale through your mouth. It's important that we incorporate all five senses. So what did you see? What did you hear? What did you smell? What did you feel? What did you taste? And write those things down.
Speaker 1:Great, okay, and now we'll go to the last quadrant, the bottom right hand quadrant. In this area of my life, it has been more amazing than I could have ever possibly imagined. So what's happened in that area of your life? And I want you to write it down what's happened?
Speaker 1:What else has happened in that area of your life? And continue to ask yourself that question what else, what else? Until you feel complete, until you feel like there's nothing else coming up for you. So, in that area of your life, what's happened? And continue to go down that path until everything is out. Now, how has that happened? How do you envision that unfolding? What are some of the specific pathways that get you there?
Speaker 3:What are some of the things?
Speaker 1:that get you there. You to consider next, why is this important to me? Why is this happening important to me? What about? It is valuable and important? And, just like the last question, I want you to keep digging on that until you feel complete. Why else is this important? And whatever the answer is that you just wrote down, I want you to be like a child, with a childlike curiosity, and ask yourself well, why is that thing important? And we're gonna go a few layers deep on this.
And, after you flush that out, consider the way that you're showing up now, five years from now. You. How does that impact the people closest to you in your world, people that you're most intimately connected with? How are they impacted by who you've become and who do they touch? Next, what's the ripple effect of who you've become Now?
Speaker 1:I want you to take just a minute here and look over, just read through everything you've written down in this area of your life, kind of refresh your mind on everything you've written down, and I want you to now put your pen down and close your eyes and take a deep breath in Exhale through your mouth. Now imagine that you are walking into a space and you're walking into some room. There's people in it and this is the five-year version of you in that area of your life.
Now I want you to open your eyes and, if you don't have room on that top quadrant, if you filled it up, just flip the paper over and I want you to write down what you noted in that visualization and we go through all five senses. It's important that we incorporate all five senses. So what did you see? What did you hear? What did you smell? What did you feel? What did you taste and write those things down.
Speaker 1:Okay, hopefully by now you have a vivid vision of at least four aspects of your life and what they could be looking like in five years. I'm gonna give you a little bonus exercise here if you are not completely visioned out, but maybe you want to pause and grab a glass of water and come back to this. I kind of nodded to this as we were going throughout the exercise. This is a really powerful, I think, logical aha and also visualization sort of right brain aha that you can have. So if you look at any one of the quadrants, you can pick as many things you want. We really want to focus on one thing at a time, but let's just say relationships was one of your quadrants. So I'll give you an example here. Let's you know.
Speaker 1:For me it's okay. I would think I would like to have a partner again someday. So if I'm gonna take a fresh sheet of paper and I'm gonna write down future partner, I'm gonna draw a circle around that future partner and then I'm gonna draw kind of spokes coming out of it so that it looks like sort of rays of a sunshine. And I asked the question in the exercise what are the feelings that you'll feel when you get the thing. So for me, it's a partner. I will feel loved, I will feel seen, empowered, ravished, a lot of things. So, to write down all of the things that you want to feel, because what we've come to know is that we're not actually seeking the thing, we're seeking how we'll feel when we get the thing. So, now that you've identified how you want to feel, here's the empowering question for you what have I allowed to disable me from feeling that feeling now? So if I want to feel, if I think that I'll feel more loved when I have a partner, what is disallowing me from feeling fully loved right now? Or if I think that I will feel more empowered when I get a certain job, where am I allowing myself to be disempowered now? When did I give my power away? And right now, in this moment, you are empowered, you are loved. Everything that we think we lack, we are connected to a source that we can have it right now, and this is one of those tools of manifestation, or call it what you want to call it, but when we embody where we want to go, when we actually carry that identity in ourselves I don't know the exact words to put to this, but if I show up tomorrow and everything that I do, feeling empowered and loved, if that's how I want to feel.
Speaker 1:As an example, how do you think that attracts things into my world versus feeling like a disempowered, unlovable victim? Do you think one or the other is going to cause me to react differently to scenarios or have a different body posture or meet people in their eyes differently? That gives me more opportunity. It works on so many levels. So just know that whatever the feeling is that you're seeking, you can have that now. You can have that feeling now, and when you have that feeling now, you might actually decide you don't even want that thing anymore. Maybe you still do, but then you're vibrating at a frequency where you start to attract those things in as well. So there's a little bonus to your visualization exercise for you Now. If I was you, what I would do is probably just digest that for a day or two or maybe a week, however much time you think you need to let that visual, the actual visual of your five year future, kind of permeate your being.
Speaker 1:And what I love to do around this time of year is take a night. I'm so moody in my house, I got my tree up and I did this old fashioned tree this year and I love to turn on some like classic Christmas music and light a fire and grab a favorite beverage. And I like to create a vision board. I've done it on my computer before. You can do it with poster board and magazines. You can get pictures from online and print them out. It's a really fun family activity to do as well.
Speaker 1:And my old vision boards. It is wild when I look at them now and realize how much of it has come to pass or is very close to being achieved. So that's kind of a fun weekend or evening activity that you can do by yourself, with a partner, with a team, with a girlfriend, best friend, kids, whomever. So that's that. I would do something with that and then with the vision board. What's cool about it? If you do it on poster board, you can take a picture of it. Or if you do it on your computer, I turned mine last year into my computer like my screensaver and I put it on my phone too and I had those visuals constantly in front of me. Me with a mic and headphones was one of the ones on my previous vision board in here. It's hard to keep it in front of you and not start seeing it unfold. So, okay, that hopefully was a lot of meaty stuff for you and I know, for me when I do these exercises I'm like, okay, that was a lot, so digest that for a bit. I hope that was helpful for you.
Speaker 1:The next episode is going to be taking that five year goal. I'm going to help you take those five year visions, break it down to three years, break it down to one year, and then we're going to work on creating really specific, actionable goals for you. I'm going to give you some takeaways and some ways that you can execute on this. Now that is the linchpin. Sometimes it's easier to come up with the ideas than it is to execute, so I'm going to go into a very logical mode of execution on the next episode.
Speaker 1:Okay, thanks for joining me today. Thanks for tuning in.
